At Home with thando

On stage.

By Stephanie Matsuba

Zimbabwean born & Melbourne based singer-songwriter thando (she/her) has been gracing stages around Australia with her electric presence & powerhouse vocals.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Awkward, passionate and fun.

What is the why behind what you do?

Cause I have something to say and words don't do enough for me.

Is there a passion/dream outside of music you are also pursuing?

Mentoring young people.

What would be your dream collab?

I'd love to write music with Ngaiire.

Words don’t do enough for me.

What drives you most as an artist?

Social change.

Where do you feel most at home?

The stage is my home. I prefer creating new music in an improv setting on stage than I do in the studio. There's a fight or flight response that kicks in when I am allowing myself to be vulnerable in front of an audience, and it's where most of my growth has been.

If you could share one thing with the world what would it be and why?

I would probably share my ability to season food while cooking because quite frankly adding salt to food after the cooking process is a sin.

What is your superpower?

I can make situations incredibly awkward within seconds.
